As the seasons change, so do the fabrics we reach for in our wardrobe. I feel like we often gravitate toward wool, leather, and cashmere, but let’s not forget about velvet!
Velvet has quite the RICH history… literally! Velvet used to be only accessible to the wealthy due to its high price. Technological advances have allowed the production of velvet to be much more affordable, making it accessible to all of us! Velvet was all over the runway this year and should be hanging right in our very own closets!
Velvet is especially good-looking as we approach the holidays. Velvet dresses, bows, shoes, blazers, etc can be found in most everyone’s holiday wardrobe. I know it seems fancy, but you can dress down a velvet blazer with a simple pair of jeans. Velvet does not have to be reserved for only fancy occasions!

Velvet does seem like it belongs in the evening wardrobe, but one trick to bring it into daytime is to mix in other textures to pair it down. Velvet looks great with leather, patent leather, or other more hair-like fuzzy textures! I feel like the addition of other textures allows the velvet to be more approachable in daytime looks.
