Hair Biology & My Experienced Hair Needs

I always used to have thick, full, long, shiny hair. Growing up in the Philippines, I regularly used to get a deep-conditioning hair and scalp treatment. It was such a treat to be able to have someone massaging my scalp with virgin coconut oil an hour at a time…

Shampoo commercials there, as here, often showed young women enjoying both their healthy hair and their girl besties. However, shampoo ads have never seemed to show women at the age I am now.

But the truth is, we do still love having fun with our hair and we do still love hanging out with our girlfriends! Just earlier this month, I got to enjoy some of that energy when I hung out with three other amazing women, all fellow influencers, at the beach here in Rhode Island.

Must-Have Home Accessories

The journey to creative inspiration can be an infinitely fulfilling one. When we are in alignment and our creativity is flowing, it seems as if all the world is opening up to us and revealing its beauty.

But while we women over 50 can have just as much joie de vivre as the younger women in shampoo commercials, unfortunately, our hair does change as we get older. And unfortunately, so few talk about this and so few brands seem to acknowledge this! What’s a girl to do?

Since hitting midlife, and specifically menopause, I’ve been having issues with my hair being dry. I do color treat it—a root touch and balayage every eight weeks or so—and have been doing so for at least the last five years. But around March or April last year, I began to notice changes in my hair even though I’d made no changes to my daily routines or hair treatments.

Now I can’t seem to grow it out, so I generally keep it shoulder length. But it also looks dull, it’s thinning, and I get a lot of falling hair.

So I’m excited that Hair Biology [available at Target] has just launched several new products exactly for what I need!

First, they’ve got their Vivid and Protected collection, with a shampoo, conditioner, and mask meant for color treated hair for experienced women just like me. And second, they’ve got their Silver Shine Serum, meant to restore moisture and shine for those girlfriends fighting brassiness in their silver, grey or blonde hair.

I already have problems with dullness and dryness in my hair, so it’s great that Hair Biology [now at Target]’s shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair are also both sulfate free. Sulfates are what give us that fun, sudsy experience with soaps and shampoos, but they’re also what strip away natural oils and that luscious color you spent hours to achieve. Don’t forget to also use Hair Biology’s color-sealing mask to help keep your color vibrant 2x longer.

However, Scandinavian design has remained through the years a combination of both low-cost, mass-produced items and unique, one-of-a-kind, handcrafted products, giving the style a certain distinctive versatility and allowing consumers to see the artist’s touch through the practical products.

In addition,

the entire Vivid and Protected collection is made with biotin. I’ve been taking a supplement that is a combo of collagen plus biotin, both meant to nourish skin and hair health. For me, personally, the hormonal changes of menopause are wreaking havoc to my hair, so I’m excited at the promise of a shampoo that also contains biotin.

The products launched just a few days ago exclusively at Target, so I’ve just started using them. I’ve tried the shampoo and have used the mask, and both work well. They smell good but also smell mild—which is great, as I have a strong aversion for perfumy products.

I like the convenience of being able to get good quality haircare products from Target but also products that address the hair concerns of middle-aged women going through hormonal changes. So if you’re excited to give these a try for yourself, check out Hair Biology right here, exclusively at Target!
