Midlife is Often Connected to a Crisis

Midlife is oftentimes connected to a crisis…  I had mine in my early 40’s while going through a divorce. When I was about to turn 50 and my crisis years behind me, I had a golden opportunity to pause, reflect, and hopefully inspire. My IG account “Confessions of a Superager” (and this blog) allows me to share some learnings I’ve picked up along the way. Consider it a public diary of my thoughts, opinions, and interests while navigating the course of midlife. My love for fashion and dressing up, traveling to new destinations, meeting up with friends – both old and new, sharing my modern blended family and all our adventures, make up what I like to call a “superager” lifestyle.

My superager way of life comes from a mindset of being confident about who I am and where I am today!  There is no denying aging, I just decided to be “super’ about it in all aspects of my life from waking up extra early to get my hour of exercise, planning my outfit for the day be it extra glam or extra lounge chic,  and most important of all, sharing the “extra” details of my daily life with all of you.  Maintaining a space requires effort on your part as parents. Cleaning can be a stressful job if you have no cleaning guide to rely on. This list will hopefully make your cleaning effort go smoothly.

Why confessions?  As I turned 50, it became imperative to be authentic, both about myself and with myself.  Keeping it real with all of you is like having a long conversation with an old friend. The bits and pieces may change, but the need to be genuine is constant.  I try to look for ways to explain the Why’s of my day. Why this outfit? Why this skincare/beauty product, what about working out makes me happy?  Why does my husband make me laugh? So many confessions, in a voice, so naturally mine.

However, it doesn’t mean you have to be minimal always. If there’s room to improve learning for your kids then don’t hesitate to add stuff in the learning space.

This midlife journey is exciting, surprising, and also, just evolving and if I were to sum it all up it would read as “Confessions of a super ager going through midlife in style”.

This fall was shaping up to be an exciting season for beauty. We were prepared to reenter the world, thinking about our office and back-to-school beauty looks. In a survey conducted with 784 Byrdie Beauty Collective members, 47% said they’d be wearing makeup often as social restrictions ease and daily life returns to “normal.” That said, it’s not happening quite yet.

With the variant swirling around and mask mandates coming back—we’re not necessarily getting back to our pre-pandemic lifestyles for a while.

That begs the question: Where is beauty headed this fall? The answer is two-fold, according to experts. “There will always be two camps,” editorial makeup artist Kenneth Cho says. “Some will want to apply everything and be super creative and expressive. However, I think there will be a focus on a much more honed-down regimen.” With that in mind, this season’s trends run the gamut from subtle to over-the-top.

Chocolate brown lipstick had a major moment in the ’90s, being sported by all of our favorite beauty icons from Naomi Campbell to Jennifer Lopez. Eye-Catching Eyeliner

There will still be a heavy emphasis on eye makeup in the months to come, because masks are still a thing. We’re predicting a rise in unexpected and intense eyeliner looks. “I’m looking forward to seeing liners in various colors like deep berry reds and purples, rich vine greens to be used alongside the traditional black liners,” Soh says. Models graced the runway with deep blue eyeliner for the Dior Haute Couture Autumn-Winter 2021-2022 show.
