Makeup Tips for Mature Skin

I

In an effort to stay looking youthful, while aging gracefully I have done tons of research and tried many different techniques. I am so excited to share with you some of my tried and true makeup techniques that are perfect for mature skin! The makeup products that were once our holy grail when we were younger now do us a disservice as we age.

  1. Lighten up on the Foundation.

When it comes to foundation at a more mature age, less is more. Heavy and matte foundations settle too heavily into the deep lines. Choose a more lightweight moisturizing foundation, or even better a bb cream. Keep foundation to the areas only where you really need them and not over the entire face.

2. Prime Your Skin.

Priming your skin is like putting a base layer down, without this step the rest of your makeup will not apply properly. For dry, aged skin it is important to use a moisturizing product like a hyaluronic acid. Our skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid, but that production slows as we age, so it is important to supplement it whenever possible. I also opt for an spf no matter the time of year for extra protection from sun damage.

3. Add Definition to the Lash Line.

As I am sure you may have come to notice, our eye area tends to sag and lose definition as the years go by. I recommend defining your lash line with a thin tight line of eyeliner in a soft brown. If you notice your lashes are not as full or lengthy as they once were, think about adding a lash serum to your daily routine to help nourish them again.

4. Try Cream-based Makeup.

One of my favorites is a cream blush. The application is simple and due to the hydrating ingredients in them they easily melt into the skin. I find that powder blush sits in the fine lines and makes my skin appear more dry and dull instead of hydrated and youthful.

5. Do Not Forget Your Pout!

Lips are another area that lose definiton and plumpness over time. There are more permanent medical procedure to aid in this, but some things you can easily do in your daily makeup routine. I highly suggest over-lining your lips to make them appear larger. Lip liner also aids in keeping your lipstick in place and preventing the settling of the product into any fine lines.

I have been utilizing these techniques for quite some time and notice a world of difference! Give them a try and I hope they help you feel like your most fabulous self!
